Park City Maniacs

Hello Everyone,

I was supposed to have sent this yesterday but it doesn't seem to have gone through. Let me know if you get this twice.

------------

We're not actually doing anything too wild, Arthur and I, here in Park City. I just love the name, and it kinda reminds me of the Motor City Maniacs.

Nonetheless, here are some random observations about our time here:

I've seen more plastic surgery here than anywhere else I've been. It could be just coincidence, or I could be noticing something about the culture of this place. Obviously there is a lot of money here, it's a famous mountain resort town after all. But so is Whistler, and you don't see as many bottle blondes driving their Escalades to the grocery store in the middle of the afternoon, with unnaturally high cheek bones and huge lips. Or maybe I just never noticed before.

I finally found a few trails that earn their black diamond rating. They are not as insane as some of the stuff you find in BC, but it's enough to give you something to think about. I'm going to try a double black tomorrow. Will report back if I survive.

We finally found some trails in the shade. Most of the area is desert, but the ski hill itself is forested, which is nice.

Arthur made a friend at the campground I'm staying at. He's a short black lab who came over when we first set up a few nights ago. His people are the ones who run the place, and thus he's appointed himself the watchdog over the whole area. He came over to check us out and to see that we weren't getting up to any mischief. He and Arthur took turns peeing on stuff and chasing each other around. It was fun to watch. He comes over every morning and evening now, with a very serious face, just to check up on things. He kinda reminds me of a grumpy building super who is actually a good person at heart.

The first two are from the first two rides we did here. If you zoom in on the first, above my bike in the gap in the trees, you should be able to see the ski jumps in the background. That's where they held the ski events for the 2002 Olympics.

The last two are of Arthur and his new friend.
