Winnipeg day 5

Hello Everyone,
There's a joke that the test for whether you have ADHD is whether you can get organized enough to book a test for ADHD.
There's a similar dynamic here, in that the kind of people who volunteer for search and rescue organizations are nerdy keeners who are eager to do something (with the occasional dashingly handsome former fencers thrown in). That kind of self selection is antithetical to the actual activity, which is often sitting around and killing time, that is unfortunately common on these kinds of deployments.
- Saw an older white gentleman volunteer with the American Red Cross start to do a shimmying imitation of an Indigenous dance when an Indigenous support group started on a drum and song. It was as if someone had just turned on a rock music radio station and he liked the tune. He then started to film her without asking. I can't say that I'm the most culturally sensitive person in the world, but that was painful to watch. Sometimes you just have to accept that you're not part of the team, even if you really like their stuff.
- Found it frustrating to not be useful today. There are fewer evacuees than anticipated, so they shut down some emergency shelters, meaning there was less need for help. Good for the evacuees, bad for me. Better trade overall though.
- I did get to drive around a lot, so I got to see more of Friendly Manitoba's capital city. The Human Rights Museum really is beautiful and in a hell of a location. Well done, Winnipeg.
- Our residence is across the street from Princess Auto Stadium. I regret to inform you that it is not, in fact, a giant facility full of useful tools.
