Time for some hurtin' power

Hello Everyone, When you think of a training montage in a sports movie, you think of the Rocky series. Hitting slabs of beef in the freezer, running on the beach in LA, running up a mountain in Russia wearing his Sorels, there's so many great ones. You might laugh at Stallone's insistence on realism in his movies, but it's a billion dollar franchise with an oscar to its name, and it's built on little else. In the 2006 installment, Rocky Balboa, the training sequence begins with Rocky's trainer listing all the things the aging boxer won't be able to do, and how they'll rely on brute strength for the upcoming match. It's a real departure from the previous approach that emphasized the finely tuned skills that made Rocky famous. The trainer ends with the great line: "Let's start building some hurtin' power." I thought of that line today as I had to use the 4x4 on my truck. Other than hauling around my camper for thousands of miles through the mountains, I don't often get to use the full capabilities of my truck, so I was pretty stoked about this. I'd spent some hours driving from Breckenridge to Crested Butte and got to the campsite late. Travel days always seem to take longer than planned. So the sun was setting by the time we got here, only to find all the spots taken. I was surprised as it's mid week in September, but this is a popular area it seems. Anyway, I was walking around the campground with Arthur wondering what we were going to do, when I noticed there was another section to it, only you have to cross a stream to get there. I was almost giddy. Not only would we have a spot for the night, we had to do something badass to get there. I might be stretching the definition of badass a little far, but it was definitely cool. I put the truck in 4x4, edged it down the bank then drove it slowly across the running water, the river rocks crunching beneath my tires. It was very satisfying. Wes

The first is my view from the truck so I'm about to cross back over the stream this morning. The water is about a foot deep.

The second is of my campsite for the night, with its magnificent view. Crested Butte really has it going on in this regard.

The last is of the same stream from a different angle. Thought it looked cool.
