Hello Everyone, The sunshine has arrived, and with it muggy temperatures. There are several different areas where one can ride in Fernie, and today Arthur and I hit up the provincial park. It's just down the road from than the ski hill, and across the valley from the mountain we climbed yesterday, but really, it's all mountains around here. With hot sunny weather, and all the rain that came down in the last week, things were pretty muggy. The sweat was running down my brow in rivers by the time I got to the top of a couple of the trails here. I can live with that though, the views were great. Again, on several occasions, we found ourselves in open areas, with wildflowers all around. I loved it. Also, no bears, so bonus there. We were on the mountain for 3+ hours, which is enough when you are spending the vast majority of that time busting a lung getting uphill. The descents are fun, but man, do you ever earn them. Afterwards, I took Arthur to a park by the river. There are enough streams that cross the trail such that he's not dehydrated, but in his thick black coat, I'm pretty sure he gets quite hot. He certainly didn't hesitate to wade into the icy cold river when we got to the shore.

In the evenings, I sit on the aluminum steps of my camper and eat pasta while Arthur lays in the grass by the edge of the parking lot. It's quiet this time of day, and we can hear the songbirds in the trees all around. I saw a deer cross the road leading up here with two little fawns in tow. Very cute. Fernie is really making up for a bad first impression. wes

Photos:

The first is of the deer and her two fawns crossing the road. You can tell that these deer live in close proximity to people. She waited for me to stop, and ambled across while the little once bolted more quickly.

The second is of Arthur and my bike at a nice lookout from the ride yesterday.
