All of God's creatures, great and damnable

Hello Everyone,

For the previous several nights, I've been camping in the parking area of a trailhead outside of Golden. It was up a forest service road and out of the way, and free. Ideal, except for one thing: mosquitoes.

They were murderous. Both Arthur and I got swarmed whenever we went out in the evenings. So, we stayed in a lot. I mostly read, and wrote my blog posts while he lay about on his mat, then complained until I lifted him up onto the bed.

But tonight, we are living in style. We are staying at a campground that has wifi, hot showers and flush toilets. And barely any bugs. The evening has been gentle, with warm temperatures, hardly a bug in sight, and a soft breeze.

I found this place after my first choice, a free spot that was listed on a website I consult for such things, turned out to be down a logging road that had a big sign saying it was illegal to drive on. Didn't seem prudent to see how serious they were.

We had spent the morning doing a more thorough clean of the camper, then went off in search of some hot springs. We passed the towns of Radium Hot Springs and Fairmont Hot Springs, but those places are too established for my tastes. Corporate, you might say.

We went to Lussier hot springs instead, which are still a little too built up, but the best that was available. Being a long weekend, it was also fairly busy, and with limited space in the springs, I didn't stay long. Instead, we went looking for a place to spend the night.

The town where I'm staying is called Canal Flats, and the guy at the camp store made a few cracks about it being a megalopolis of some sort. It's the kind of place that you have to zoom in on a fair bit in Google maps to get it to come up.

But they have a statue of a cowboy riding a salmon at the entrance. I need no further evidence that this is the right place for me.

The aforementioned statue, and a shot of our plot for the night.
