Meeting high expectations

Hello Everyone,
Adventure based travel is great because you can visit cool towns that one might not otherwise get to see. I'm currently in Cumberland, on Vancouver island, and it's gorgeous. But it's also small, so I'm not sure what you would do if you came here just to visit. Fortunately, there is great biking. Amazing, in fact, and pretty much everyone in town bikes. Or so it seems. As such, there is a considerable trail network here and in the next town over. Two years ago, I was here with Tay for a long weekend. It kind of blew my mind and has always ranked as one of my favourite trips. Fortunately, I'm in a position where I can come back and see if the place lives up to my memories. That's actually a fraught thing, as you might find that it's not as great as you remember and you kind of tarnish the memory as a result. That's not been the case here, as long as you adjust for not having the thrill of discovery. The trails are as cool as I remember, they just aren't new to me. It sounds a bit harsh to say that this place merely met expectations, but my expectations were high. You can't always be blown away by unexpected awesomeness. You set yourself up for disappointment if you do.
Instead, Arthur and I will simply enjoy our fun trails, clear mountain streams and beautiful scenery, and not complain that I saw it once before.
Wes
