Hello Everyone,
I wrote this post last night, but didn't have the energy to edit until this morning.
-----------------
I don't mind fatigue, not when it's brought on by my own choices and actions. I always figured it was a sign I was was things right. And I don't just mean tired from a long day, I mean fatigue from a long stretch of intense activity. The kind where you wake up from a good sleep and your body is still tired and worn.
I woke up like that this morning. I couldn't really figure out why, as I had slept well and woke up naturally with the sun. Then I started going through the number of 2-4 hour days of biking I've put in over the last two weeks and it stated making sense. It's getting hot as well, almost 30 degrees on the mountain today, and that takes a toll, at least for me.
When I was fencing, I could feel my body slowing down towards the end of a week long training camp. You eat until you are full, but the body still wants more. You sleep for 8+ hours but wake up still tired. Your mind is sluggish. That's how I felt today.
But I'm not complaining. If I've biked a lot, it's because the trails are great and I have a unique opportunity to get out there. I reckon that if everything in your life is well organized, you are completely well rested and fed, well you're probably not pushing yourself very much. No fun in that.
And besides, I know how to deal with fatigue. Eat a entire box of pasta, down a couple of litres of water and get to bed by 9:30. Piece of cake.
Wes
