Leaving San Diego

Hello Everyone,

I left OB this morning, likely not to return for some time. I feel that having spent almost a full week there, cumulatively over two separate occasions, I can use the local slang for the Ocean Beach neighbourhood of San Diego I am referring to.

It's the most time I've spent in any one spot so far, and the only one where I got to feel a little less like I was just passing through. I wasn't just visiting, I lived there, if only for a few days. I'm sad to see it go.

I've stayed in urban centres and suburban malls, in the desert and in the forest, but that was the only place I could see myself living in. Places are like people, sometimes you just get a good vibe.

Jonny and I spent a full day today in transit. In the morning we had to clean up our little rental cottage and pack up the truck and camper. That took awhile.

Then we drove through LA traffic to get to Venice beach, home of muscle beach, where a certain future governor of this state famously worked out. It's a cool area, but very crowded. We checked out the strip but didn't stay long.

Back on the road, we tried to put as many miles behind us as we could. We still have to get to San Francisco tomorrow to pick up Dave. We drove until nightfall, to a state beach I had maped out beforehand.

We were tired and hungry by the time we pulled in, and were lucky to get one of the last available spots. A bit of reorganization and some dinner later, we are ready for bed. Arthur, as usual, is way ahead of us on that front.

Wes
