Just like in the movies

The first time I was in New York City, I felt like I was on the set of a movie. There are so many that are shot there, or are supposed to take place there (with Vancouver as the stand in) that the place seemed weirdly familiar even though I had never been. I got that feeling again when I arrived in San Diego.

The first thing I did was head to a place called Dog Beach. I appreciate descriptive names - this place is a beach where dogs are allowed. I figured I should head there first and let Arthur stretch his legs. As mentioned in my Instagram post, it’s a lucky dog that gets to swim in both the Atlantic and the Pacific in his lifetime.

I do not exaggerate when I say that the parking lot was about 40% camper vans, truck campers and the like. I only stood out in that my unit is new and relatively clean.

Everything about this town, or at least this area of town, looks like something out of a surf/lifeguard movie. I half expected the cast of Baywatch (the reboot) to go running across the sand at any point. There are big palm trees along the streets, and low California style bungalows make up the neighbourhood. There are surf shops and burritos shacks on every block, and in the air there are parakeets flying around. They are very loud, by the way.

When I was in Sedona, I met a guy at our campground who invited me to stay at his place in San Diego. It was a generous offer I gladly took up. After about an hour at Dog Beach, I heading for his place, which was a 6 minute drive. He’s got a sweet location.

Today, we drove out to a spot called Noble Canyon. We took two vehicles so we could shuttle to the top of the mountain and just ride the downhill sections. It was cold and foggy at the top, and as we descended, we made our way through cloud forest and into a desert environment. Definitely one of the cooler rides I’ve done.
