Hello Everyone,

A few conversations I've had at the dog park, or on the way.

"Good morning."

"Lovely dog."

"Thank you."

"How old is he?"

"He's about 5."

"What's his name?"

"Arthur."

"Oh, that's my dog's middle name."

"-----"

"He's Charles Arthur Douglas."

- What I think: There is a 100% chance that this woman has extended conversations with her animal. And that he has personalized cutlery.

- What I say: "Yeah, it's a great name."

*Arthur approaches small dog*

*Small dog chases him off with a barrage of barks*

Owner: "Oh jeez. Sorry about that."

- What I want to say: "Your dog is an 11 pound Shih-tzu. He's as dangerous as a Nerf ball. We're good."

- What I do say: "Oh, it's okay. No harm." ----------------------------

*Walking past huge construction worker*

*Worker starts petting Arthur*

"Oh these dogs, it's like they know, eh? They know who'll pet them."

- What I want to say: "You basically blocked the whole sidewalk, and pulled Arthur in so you could rub the top of his head. But sure, we ended up in this situation because 'he knew you'd pet him.'

- What I do say: "Yeah, they're pretty clever." ---------------------------

"Hi, he's a handsome fella."

"Thanks."

"How old?"

"He's about 5."

"What breed is he?"

"I'm not sure. He's from the Humane Society, but we think probably Rottweiler and Shepherd."

"Could be some Doberman too. Or also some Lab."

- What I want to say: "Yeah, he's a mutt. Did you hear the bit about him coming from the Humane Society? He could be a dozen different things. I don't have a genetics lab in my apartment."

- What I do say: "Yeah, he's probably got a few different breeds going." ---------------------------

*Walking through dog park*

*Big Golden Retriever comes bounding over and gets up close*

Owner: "It's okay, he's very friendly."

- What I want to say: "He's a Golden. They're walking love machines. He could knock over a linebacker with his tail wagging like that. He would greet an alligator with a "Hello Friend!"

- What I do say: "He certainly is."
