When a peanut butter sandwich is boring

Hello Everyone,
Every day for lunch at work I have a couple of peanut butter sandwiches. I usually put jam in one of them, to sweeten the deal. And some fruit, I have a bit of that too. I've been doing this for years now. Often, when I tell someone this, I get some variation of "that must get so boring after awhile" or simply "that is very boring." I'm not sure how much excitement we should reasonably expect from our lunches during the work week, but the point is taken. The thing is, I very rarely find it boring, for a perhaps more-obvious-than-it-seems reason: I'm hungry. When you're hungry, food tastes good, even if it's the same food you ate yesterday and the day before. And peanut butter sandwiches are very nourishing, which is a good feeling when you're hungry. While I've been known as having a healthy appetite since I was emptying jars of baby food, there's another reason I'm hungry by the time I tuck into my sandwiches: I work out over the lunch hour. When I finally get to eating the contents of my brown paper bag, I have my normal level of hunger amplified by the hunger brought on by exercise. Hunger on top of hunger means those simple sandwiches are delicious. On rare occasions though, my sandwiches do not taste so good. I had one of those days today. I've been working towards a particular goal in the gym and today was the day I was going to do it. I was totally pumped and ready for the challenge, but just as I was finishing the first set, I pulled a muscle in my back. I don't think it's too serious, but I had to stop my workout immediately. I had to put all the weights away and leave the gym. I couldn't accomplish my goal and with my bike trip coming up, and the rest of the biking season after that, I can't risk trying again until the fall. It was gutting. Back at my desk, rather than a couple of filling, tasty sandwiches to sate a hunger brought on by a fun, challenging workout, I had a couple of slices of bread and a bit of peanut butter. That was a boring lunch. wes
